Kathryn Barnes

Kathryn Barnes of Sherwood, Michigan, joined the Plein Air Artists of Western Michigan in 2009. Barnes had long wanted to join a group of active artists for outdoor painting. The group surpassed her expectations. The artist likes to get close to nature, to paint in the fresh air, and to explore new natural areas. She also enjoys the positive group of fellow artists, and the helpful and interesting critiques by the other artists at the paint outs. “It is a real adventure, and inspirational to paint in the beautiful, natural areas with other artists” states Barnes, “I especially enjoyed the winter at Cedar Creek when the swans took flight with snowflakes softly dropping onto my canvas. It was so quiet and beautiful. At that moment I felt ecstasy.”

Barnes also belongs to the Branch County Art Guild, Art’s Alive, and is the webmaster of various art websites, including the guild’s, a children’s art class, and her own site at www.kathrynbarnes.com. Barnes has an artwork in the large art show, Art Prize, in Grand Rapids, 2010, “Ribbon Mandala.”
